On Wednesday 15 April 1874 twelve cottages with "yards and outbuildings" were auctioned at the Sydney Hotel, Goole, by Mr. William Woad.
Lately belonging to Mr. William Richardson of Airmyn, and said to bring a return of £120 p.a. "subject to a deduction for rates" (i.e. a yearly rental of £10 each), their occupants were: Henry Blow, John Thompson, James Hornby, John Rowbottom, William Osborne, Albert Collier, William D(i)mbeline, John Bateman, Joseph Firth, James Schofield, Samuel Kay and Robert Woodhead.
Mr. T. Clegg, a stone shipper who had moved from South Street (by Barge Dock) to Stone House, the family residence he built on the corner of North Street and Hook Road just outside the bounds of the new port and town of Goole, was the successful bidder with an offer of £1720.
