In order to realise some of their capital investment, Earles sold land surrounding the works to developers. Housing was needed for working families whose homes in the yards and buildings off Bridge Street were being pulled down for dockland extensions.
In November 1905 plans to build 10 houses in Richard Cooper Street were passed for Messrs. E. Good & Sons Limited of Hull. These are thought to be the distinctive "cottagey"-stiled block, numbered 40 - 58 Richard Cooper Street.

Browsing Google, up comes Kevin Bean family record listing Joseph Acaster at 58 RC Street in 1891!
This casts doubt on assumption that these houses were not built until 1905.
Further checks need to be made.
February 2008
Kevin has checked his family records and now can confirm (see feedback below) that Joseph Acaster lived in COUPER Street.
The following residents are listed in the Goole Times Yearbook 1909 / 1911
40 - T.CUTTER/T.CUTTER
42 - I.COOKE/G.CHAMPION(at St.John's Street 1907)
44 - H.JACKSON
46 - T.BOLDON/H.JARRATT
48 - G.WALKER/R.WALLACE
50 - J.H.KAY/J.H.KAY
52 - J.GILLYON(1907)/W.J.KENDALL/B.MITCHELL
54 - WILLIAM SCOTT(1907)/?/?
56 - ?/H.KOPLEMAN
58 - See NB above.
On checking the location of Joseph ACASTER (my 2nd Great Grand Uncle) and family in the 1891 census, they are living at 58 Cooper Street. I probably assumed that this was the same as 58 Richard Cooper Street - my apologies if this is the wrong address.
Can anyone confirm where Cooper Street is/was, it may have been near to a George Street. I am wondering if these are streets that once existed in Old Goole ?

Thanks for clearing this - it is a fairly common misunderstanding, Kevin.
COUPER STREET is how it is/was spelled, after George Couper, a resident of Old Goole in the 1850s or so and another of these "developers". It is/was one of the side streets of Swinefleet Road (formerly known as Marshland Road, another trip when it has been confused with Marshfield Road). I dont know whether Couper Street became Moorland Road eventually, but if you look on the old maps website, you should be able to see it in its heyday.
Ditto George Street - one in Old Goole named for George Couper, and the Aire & Calder G. St. by the docks.
