Edward John WALKER,my Gt. Grandfather, had moved from 67 Carter St. (1901 census) to 68 Richard Cooper St. by 1907. He was a ship's engineer, but I don't know with which Co.
His wife Jane Eliza, died here Jul.1907, is she buried in Goole Cemetery?
3 of his 5 children lived here, Alice Mary taught music and was an accomplished pianist. She eloped to Manchester with her 1st cousin, John Sydney Harrison from Patrington, Aug 1906.
William, 16 in 1901 was a carter & carman. He was to die, unmarried, the first day of the Battle of The Somme.
Kitty,(Catherine Annie) was the youngest daughter and my Grandmother, born 1893. She remembered as a child watching thru' the window of 68 RC ST.- waiting for her father's ship to return. Would that have been possible?
The Walkers came from a long line of carpenters from Drax, but Edward's grandfather, Thomas, became a shipbuilder in Drypool.
I would love to know if the house is still there in RC St. It seems there was later a shop on the corner, could they have been next door?
I am planning to visit Goole soon on my trip to England & hope to take a few photos.
This is a wonderful site - keep up the good work!

Great stuff and many thanks for your comments. I guess your ancestors would be able to see ships on the river at that time, although the embankment has been raised since, for purposes of flood protection.
The house still stands, but a public inquiry was held into the demolition of these streets only last week of May 2010. Hopefully the solitary campaigner, whose property stands opposite your family's home, will win the day, see his concluding statement to the Inquiry, on this site's front page. We set up this website in a bid to gather their history and record such residents over the years.
The house next door, the last on the northern side of the street was a shop and there is more about the street on earlier and later RC Street pages.
Will try and find your family in the Cemetery records and post details if found.
Good to hear from you and glad you found the site. Will hope your memories raise many more from other ex-resident families.
There was a J. Walker just around the corner on Hook Road, no. 31 I think, the property called Kauri House, which suggests links with perhaps NZ?
That Walker was a builder.

Frank is watching football, but he says:
"I have nothing further on 68. Untill working with you I always thought Ike Hebden lived there. He was my Dads boatman on the Docks. But I see his name in Ph Street."
Perhaps Hebdens did live at 68 RC Street, after the Walker family.
Do we have any dates as to when Mr. Walker's family left this address?
Can't find any mention of Mrs. Walker's burial in Goole Cemetery records, per Goole/Boothferry Local and Family History Memorial Inscriptions.
