01/11/2006 - GAG want problem streets to be SAFE AS HOUSES
Goole Action Group has announced that it is looking into the feasibility of installing closed circuit TV, of the same type used in shopping centres, onto the streets of some of the problem housing areas in Goole.
Kevin Flynn, chairman of Goole Action Group has confirmed that they are in the process of obtaining estimates from several Companies for the installation and running of the system.
It is initially proposed for the Phoenix Street and Richard Cooper Street areas, where ERYC are still trying to push through a demolition proposal but where many local residents are up in arms and fighting to save their homes.
Goole Action Group state that the scheme may also be rolled over onto other streets, in the future, after requests from residents of adjoining areas, for help in combating anti-social and problem behaviour.
Currently they have received a pledge of financial support but are looking for additional contributions to totally finance the schemes.
Goole Action Group believe ERYC should also become involved and feels many of the problems in Phoenix Street and Richard Cooper Street are a direct result of the demolition proposals and the way in which they have then been badly handled, with little consideration being given to residents in these areas.
It is thought that the cameras will have a major impact on crime reduction and help to improve the standard of life for all remaining occupiers.
Goole Action Group state that from feedback they have received it shows that the bulk of law abiding citizens would welcome the installation of the camera system.
