27/02/2007 - Goole Action Group has reported a fantastic response to their latest exhibition
Goole Action Group has reported a fantastic response to their latest exhibition which took place Saturday 27th Jan. outside Goole's Victorian Market.
There was an overwhelming vote in favour of renovation as opposed to the much criticised proposals for demolition, presently included in East Riding of Yorkshire Council's Advance Goole project.
Over 140 people were willing to complete a simple questionnaire resulting in an almost unanimous vote for renovation, with only one person supporting demolition.
Kevin Flynn, Chairman of Goole Action Group, commented that this person was a visitor to the town from Holland whose opinion was not indicative of the support that Goole people give to the renovation proposals. "It could be Double Dutch of ERYC to cling to this and continue to ignore the support that the renovation proposal has in the town," he said.
"The support received has increased our enthusiasm and made every member more determined than ever to see this through as we can demonstrate affordable homes, quicker, cheaper and better.
"More exhibitions are planned and we just wish East Riding Council would attend and see what the people of Goole really want."
Some random comments from residents:
"I believe that there is a shortage of low cost housing in Goole and many more affordable homes could be made by renovation."
"It's a scandal"
"They should definitely not be pulled down, they are too good."
"Why destroy property which can be renewed for a comparatively small cost and make Goole look better as well?"
"I was born in Richard Cooper St. and would hate to see these streets demolished"
"Listen to your rate-payers, they pay your wages"
"Where next? not ours I hope."
